Gameloft to go universal with iOS releases
Prolific mobile developer Gameloft plans to make all future iOS games universal, rather than following the common iPad HD release model.
Gameloft's Gregory Wintgens gave the news to Pocket Gamer at gamescom, and said user feedback had motivated the decision.
Wintgens noted that licensing problems mean the company will not always be able to release an iPhone and iPad version simultaneously, but expects to eliminate the often months-long delays involved in HD conversions.
Gameloft is part of the Ubisoft family, and produces a large number of games based on properties like Assassin's Creed. It launched what is claimed to be the App Store's first MMORPG, Order & Chaos, which pulled in over $1 million in its first three weeks on sale.
The company recently announced plans to expand into Louisiana and has been the subject of a scandal over work conditions.
Thanks, Joystiq.
