GameCube rarity Pac-Man VS. is coming to Switch in the next Namco Museum collection
Pac-Man VS., a GameCube game played by almost no-one, is making its way to the Switch.
Pac-Man VS., originally released for the GameCube in 2003, was available as a bonus disc available when you purchased I-Ninja, R: Racing Evolution, or the Player's Choice edition of Pac-Man World 2. The recommended way to play involved three players playing the game on the TV, controlling ghosts, while a fourth played on a Game Boy Advance connected with the Link Cable, playing as Pac-Man. The ghosts only had a partial view of the playing field, while Pac-Man had free reign.
The game was well liked by those who played it, but the need for extra controllers, a Game Boy Advance, and a purchase of another game meant that it had very limited reach. Pac-Man VS. appeared in a Nintendo DS version of Namco Museum back in 2007, and was available on mobile phones in Japan, but the upcoming Switch edition of Namco Museum will return the game to consoles for the first time since the GameCube.
Polygon is reporting that you'll need two systems to get a four player game going. Three players will play on one Switch, while a fourth will use the other to control Pac-Man on their own screen. There will also be an option for three players to team up as ghosts on one machine and chase down a computer-controlled Pac-Man, which was not possible in the original.
The Switch version of Namco Museum will also feature Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaga, Galaga 88, The Tower of Druaga, Rolling Thunder, Rolling Thunder 2, Sky Kid, Splatterhouse, and Tank Force. It is due on July 28 and will retail for $29.99.
