Free-to-play games now account for 50% of European market

Free-to-play games accounted for half of Europe's game acquisitions across the last twelve months, a new survey has found.

Originally reported by MCV, a survey conducted by Ipsos Media CT and ISFE states that half of the European market - that is games sold or acquired for free - was made up of F2P titles.

The report also suggests that game sales in the UK are trailing behind other regions, with Britain's market currently worth €291m for the last 12 months, sitting behind Germany at€351m, but currently ahead of France at €256m.

The survey also found that 37% of the UK population has played a game in the last 12 months, which pales in comparison to 51% of the French population, Germany's 35% and Spain's 31%.
