Forza Horizon 3 Xbox One X graphics comparable to PC's highest settings in almost all areas
Forza Horizon 3 received an Xbox One X update overnight that native 4K support.
This, coupled with Forza Horizon 3's great looks and HDR support means that Xbox One X owners are in for a real treat. It also means that the Xbox One version is due for another comparison with big-boy PC graphics.
The update is pretty small, at less than 700MB, in part thanks to many of the assets already being part of the game because of the PC release. According to Digital Foundry, the game does indeed run at native 4K without the use of dynamic scaling or checkerboarding.
The game also retains the 4x MSAA the base version used at launch, which makes for a really sharp image when you consider the already native 4K output. Frame-rate has not changed from a locked 30fps.
Elsewhere in the graphics department, the patch ups the AF to a full 16x, upgraded motion blur, increased level of detail for roads and cars. These all are comparable to PC's highest setting, though they fall below in some areas like motion blur.
Static shadows are actually of a higher quality than PC, but dynamic shadows are still a step below PC's highest setting. This is still miles better than base Xbox One, of course.
