Fortnite "skill-based matchmaking turned off" in Team Rumble changes

Fortnite’s Team Rumble playlist has always been a place to kick back, complete a few challenges, and practice your shooting without pulling on the try-hard sweatpants. Now Epic has confirmed the game mode will be returning to a more chill experience without skill-based matchmaking, as well as a few other changes.

Fortnite Team Rumble Skill-based matchmaking changes

The list of changes were confirmed on the FortniteBR subreddit by an official Epic Games account. They will come into effect tomorrow when the game is updated. You can find our page on all of the Fortnite Season 2 leaks, here.

“With the new season coming tomorrow, we have made a few changes to Team Rumble,” u/EpicDustyDevo said.

The changes are as follows:

  • All weapon drops are blue or better
  • Bandages completely removed
  • Glider redeployment is now a free ability that doesn't take a slot
  • 150/150/150 in all three materials are given to you at the start of a match
  • Skill-based matchmaking has been turned off
  • Increased elimination goal to 125

Skill-based matchmaking has been a controversial recent addition to Fortnite. It was implemented with the goal of giving new players a better chance at improving rather than just getting stomped by seasoned victory royale winners.

However, this made rounds much, much more difficult for intermediate and high level players. Where you used to be able to ease into a match and maybe catch a couple of weaker players off-guard to set up for the rest of a game, every fight was a total scrap between good players.

This change returns Team Rumble to a more casual playlist.

The update to weapon rarity does mean that you won’t be able to complete challenges which require common and uncommon guns though.

Epic Games has been dropping teasers for the new season of Fortnite all week. You can find all of them in one place, here.
