Fortnite on Switch: you can use party chat without needing the ridiculous mobile app

It turns out Fortnite players on Switch need not turn to the Switch Online mobile app up to talk to their friends in the game.

The Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite, which only just launched, includes native support for voice chat. In other words, you can plug a headset into the headphone jack on the Switch to use it.

This fantastic news was shared by an Epic Games developer on Nintendo's Treehouse livestream at E3. The feature is technically not available yet, but the developer noted it will be turned on tomorrow, June 14.

Here's a clip of that part of the stream, captured by @Wario64.

This revelation is very interesting, particularly because Nintendo made everyone believe the feature doesn't exist on Switch, hence the need for the Switch Online app.

Nonetheless, it's great news for players and will definitely come in handy in a game as reliant on communication as Fortnite Battle Royale.

In other Fortnite Switch news, Epic confirmed that the Save the World PvE mode will not be coming to Switch.

If you're looking to play Fortnite on Switch soon, you may be disappointed to learn that you won't be able to use the same Epic account you use on PS4 to play on Switch, thanks to Sony blocking cross-play. You'll have to create a new Epic account.
