Fortnite 'might be Epic's best work', Mark Rein suggests
Fortnite might just be developer Epic Games' crowning glory, according to company vice president Mark Rein, but doesn't want the company to rush it out the gate.
Speaking with CVG, Rein said that Fortnite, "might be the best thing we've ever done", and added that, "It's so good that I pulled all Fortnite content from this engine demo three weeks ago".
Rein opted to show Fortnite in a fuller light than just a short tech demo so that people could properly see what it involves. We reported on the game's very impressive GDC demonstration here.
Added Rein, "All of the Unreal demos we were going to do [at GDC] were all going to use Fortnite content. You saw in the tools demos - the rooms, the globes, the animations... that was all created after I said, 'Fortnite is too good to ruin in this demo.' And by ruin I meant showing people a little, tiny bit of it - a little streak of world."
The plan now is to take a slow and considered approach to Fortnite's release, similar to Notch's Minecraft. The idea is that Epic will let a few hundred people in at a time and let them play with it to iterate and make sure it progresses solidly from there.
What do you think of Fortnite? Could it be the game to give Minecraft a run for its money, given the sandbox creation elements at play? Let us know below.
