Fire Emblem: Fates controversial scene removed from Western release

A certain controversial scene in the upcoming Fire Emblem: Fates will not be making its way to the West.

The upcoming Western release of Fire Emblem: Fates will not be without some alterations. As is the case with a lot of Nintendo-published games in Japan and the West, some edits are usually made before the game reaches the Western hemisphere.

Fire Emblem: Fates is the latest game to have a certain scene and conversation removed. The scene involves "drugging/gay conversion," according to Nintendo.

It involves Soleil, an in-game female character who's known to be flustered around women, being slipped a powder in her drink. This is done by a male protagonist without her knowing. The powder effects let her see all men as women and vice versa.

During the course of the game, Soleil falls in love with the same male protagonist (whom she sees as female), and when the effect wears off she still maintains her love to him, despite falling in love with a female version.

As you can probably tell, not everyone is going to be fine with this storyline. Nintendo of America issued a statement to Nintendo World Report saying this won't make it into the version coming to North America or Europe.

"In the version of the game that ships in the U.S. and Europe, there is no expression which might be considered as gay conversion or drugging that occurs between characters," the statement read.

Fire Emblem: Fates is out on 3DS, February 19 in the U.S.
