Fire Emblem is the focus of a special Nintendo Direct presentation today.

The Fire Emblem show kicks off at 5:00pm ET January 18, and you can watch right here, via the Twitch embed above.

Nintendo hasn't given any details on what to expect, except to say that there will be some discussion of Fire Emblem Warriors, the spin-off announced during the Switch launch reveal event late last week.

We don't yet know much about the project except that it comes to us via a collaboration with Koei Tecmo, much like The Legend of Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors, and outside Nintendo, Dragon Quest Heroes. Not to mention everything else in the enormous extended Musou family, of which Dynasty Warriors is the progenitor and flagship.

Keep your fingers crossed for word on a new core Fire Emblem game, but remember Nintendo has a Fire Emblem mobile game in the works, which it should begin talking about soon. Don't be surprised if that pops up instead.

The latest game in the strategy RPG series is Fire Emblem Fates, which released in Birthright and Conquest flavours. A third flavour, Revelation, was released as DLC in June 2016 - so it may well be too early to start talking about the next one.

That said, Fates arrived in Japan just three years after 2012's Awakening, so we might be looking at a 2018 release for the next one.
