Finland one-ups every other nation with hardcore Global Game Jam event

The Finnish team is retreating to a literal cabin in the woods for the 2016 Global Game Jam.

Every year, teams from all over the world lock themselves up in a race to produce the best possible video games within an unhealthy 48 hour period of non-stop development.

As if volunteering for what essentially amounts to a crunch period weren't painful enough, this year's Finnish participants have agreed to being bundled off into the wilderness.

Called Survival Jam, the Finnish event is in the hands of Lapland Safaris, who will house 20 developers in an isolated cabin, with a limited electricity supply, no Internet and no running water - in the middle of winter.

The fact that there's a sauna is the only upside I can see. We salute the brave staffers from Kuuasema, Frogmind Games, Mindfield Games, Moido Games, V2.fi and Seriously who have taken up this challenge, which was made possible by the sponsorship of Grand Cru.

Global Game Jam runs January 29 through 31. Good luck to all of the tens of thousands of developers participating around the world.
