Final Fantasy Agito trademark re-registered by Square Enix Japan

Square Enix has re-registered a trademark for Final Fantasy Agito, the long-abandoned title of a PSP game that never made it to the west.

As Final Fantasy fans will recall, this isn't the first time the title "Agito" has turned up: Final Fantasy 13 was originally announced as a trilogy of loosely-connected games under the title Fabula Nova Crystallis. Square Enix's Japan's new trademark doesn't include any mention of 13 or XIII, simply registering "Final Fantasy Agito".

The game formerly known as Final Fantasy Agito 13 is a PSP title which was eventually renamed Final Fantasy Type-0 and distanced from the Fabula Nova Crystallis sequence. It has not made it west despite fan clamour and continuous rumours of its potential launch.

Of the rest of the sequence, only the core game - Final Fantasy 13 - has made it to release so far, spawning one sequel plus a third upcoming entry, Lightning Returns. Final Fantasy Versus 13 has been long AWOL.

Keep your eyes fixed to Square Enix's E3 stream, where it has promised to reveal a Final Fantasy title - Versus, or perhaps even a new game called Agito?

The registration appeared in a bunch of far less mysterious trademarks by Japanese publishers this week, as compiled by Gematsu.
