Nomura shocked to learn he was directing Final Fantasy 7 Remake instead of Kitase
Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura has said he had no idea he was the game's director until he saw an internal company presentation video.
Speaking with Weekly Famistu (thanks, Kotaku), due to being the original game's character designer Nomura had been offering opinions on FF7 Remake, but was under the impression original director Yoshinori Kitase would be in charge.
“As pre-production went along and I offered my opinions on what I thought should be done,: he said. "Mr. Kitase would asked me how the individual elements should be adjusted in fine detail.
“It was very perplexing. Then one day, as I was checking the internal company presentation video it said ‘Director Tetsuya Nomura’ at the end. I called up Mr. Kitase and said, ‘It says that I’m the director for some reason.’ To which he replied, ‘If course it does.'”
Nomura said last week the actual name for Final Fantasy 7 Remake would be revealed this winter, and that is more than just an HD conversion. He said in the report, which you can read in its entirety here, that story changes can be expected and more details on the game can be expected sometime in November.
A trailer for the game was shown during Square Enix’s E3 2015 presentation at E3 2015.
Nomura is also directing Kingdom Hearts 3.
