Final Fantasy 15 team not keen on nude mods, but once PC gamers buy in "it's their game now"
Final Fantasy 15 is definitely going to generate nude mods.
Final Fantasy 15 is coming to PC in early 2018, and will support mods soon after release - if not immediately.
As previously reported, director Hajime Tabata has said that he wants Final Fantasy 15's mod support to be unrestricted, free and limitless as possible - which of course means giving modders the opportunity to make nude mods and other risque content, as well as stuff like cheats that detract from the creator's original vision for how the game is meant to be experienced.
Speaking to PCGamesN, Tabata said that nude mods in particular were "something most [of the Final Fantasy 15 team] were really worried about", but ultimately they decided to allow it.
"What's stronger in my mind is the fact that I don't want to limit people too much - this is part of the culture of gaming these days," Tabata said.
"These people - it's a thing they've bought, it's their game now. I don't think it's a good thing, but we're going to leave it to the moral sense of all the players out there."
Japanese publishers still have an uneasy relationship with PC gaming and by extension modding. Dead or Alive developer Team Ninja threatened not to port to PC if modders weren't "moral", which was kind of hilarious, but makes more sense in the context of Japanese laws.
It's nice to see Square Enix and its peers giving PC a go, and hopefully getting better at it as they go along.
