Final Fantasy 15 characters dress in black because of reasons

Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata has offered an explanation for why the RPG's four major characters dress like a band you'd find filed somewhere between Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit in the hopes that you accidentally pick up the wrong CD case.

The four lads who make up the core Final Fantasy 15 party all wear black because of their positions in national organisations, Tabata said in a post on the game's Japanese forum. Yeah: that bare chest is a uniform.

Siliconera has translated the full quote, but here's the relevant bit:

"They are each wearing the specific battle dress relevant to their individual stations. In the Kingdom of Lucis where our heroes reside, the colour black has historically been treated as a special colour. Because of this, the attire of the royal family and those in occupations closely tied to them are unified by having black as a base colouring."

I'm sure you're all intelligent enough that you don't need reminding that Lucis is not a real place, and the true answer is because Tabata and his colleagues think it looks cool and filled in the blanks later.

Final Fantasy 15 launches on PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, unless Square Enix would rather spend another 12 months painting rocks and arguing. It's not impossible.
