FIFA's UI usability "is something we need to look at quite hard," says Rutter
FIFA boss David Rutter has said the team behind the series plans to make the user interface less like a button masher in future iterations, starting with FIFA 13.
Speaking with OPM, Rutter said the menus system in FIFA 13 has befitted from some streamlining, compared to the sixteen button presses it takes to go from one career mode to the next in FIFA 12.
“Our user interface’s usability is something that in the future we need to look at quite hard," he said. "I can’t tell you the exact number of button presses that you’ll need, but... There are a lot of things going on in the game that, particularly for online, have been there to try to eradicate as much cheating as possible.
"So some of the issues that [fans] probably feel around ‘why do I always have to download squad updates? Why’s it always checking my squad? Why why why… is because a lot of people were hacking the squad files and putting out amazing squads."
Rutter likened the number of button presses and menu-hopping in career mode to the amount of processing time, due to the game having to "resolve a ton of data.”
“We need to do a lot better in a lot of different areas," he said.
FIFA 13 launches this autumn on 3DS, DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
