Not all FIFA 21 progress will transfer from current-gen to next-gen
Not all of your FIFA 21 progress will transfer from current-gen to next-gen, according to EA.
EA has offered up some information on what will and will not transfer from the current-gen version of FIFA 21 to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
According to the company, all progress and content within FIFA 21 Ultimate Team, and progression in Volta will transfer from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.
However, as Eurogamer notes, progress within all other modes will not. This includes Online Seasons, co-op Seasons, Career Mode, and Pro Clubs. Basically, with Career Mode not transferring, it will mean you have to start that portion over again when switching console generations.
EA states the reason is having to make concessions due to the time required to "make all modes transferable."
"When we start developing for a new generation of consoles, there's ultimately some trade-offs we need to make," an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer.
"So we decided that the time required to make all modes transferable was better used to build new features and improvements across the entire game, along with addressing feedback from our players.
"Since both Volta and FUT are server-based modes it made sense for us to focus on them as a way for players to carry over their progression."
The company also recently confirmed there will be no cross-play in the game between generations.
FIFA 21 is out on October 9 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. Owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions will get a free upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X, provided they make the transition before October 2021.
