The official website for the Japanese live-drama Final Fantasy XIV: Hikari no Otousan has gone live! While the show's title translates to Final Fantasy XIV: The Father of Light, the showrunners have chosen the more interesting English subtitle of "Daddy of Light". The drama is based on a blog which tells the story of a son reconnecting with his father through Final Fantasy XIV.
The basic synopsis, as I explained before:
The son gives his gamer dad a copy of Final Fantasy XIV for PlayStation 4 and some game time cards as a gift. As the father gets into the game, the son joins him online, helping him through FFXIV without revealing his true identity. The son wrote the blog, detailing his experiences with his unknowing dad.
An announcement on the official Twitter account for the show noted that following the April 16 airing on Japanese network MBS and April 18 airing on TBS, the show would begin its Japanese Netflix launch on April 20. Even better, the show will be streaming worldwide on Netflix this Fall!
The show will be told through live-action scenes and in-game footage from Final Fantasy XIV. The showrunners have previously released the opening credits for the show, which you can see above. The opening song is "The Other End of the Globe", sung by Glay.
