Female Shepard vocal talent talks voice acting and favourite FemShep
In an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, FemShep VO actor Jennifer Hale has spoken about her range of videogame roles and which of the potential new looks being put forward for Mass Effect 3's female protagonist is her favourite.
Jennifer Hale is perhaps most famous in videogame circles for her voice work in the Mass Effect franchise, but she's also lent her vocal talent to Metal Gear’s Naomi Hunter, SOCOM’s HQ, KotOR's Bastilla and to producing grunts of exertion for Metroid Prime’s Samus.
Speaking about her videogame voice work, Hale said:
"I find it particularly demanding. Say when I do animated series, I’m typically working with the cast, and we get to interact with each other, and work off each other’s energy. In a four hour session you’re swapping back and forth about who’s in the hot seat. When you do a game it’s basically like doing a one-woman show for four hours."
Hale went on to say that acting with someone when recording for videogames is rare, but that Bioware has a system in place to allow actors to hear the dialogue of those that they're sharing a scene with, which can be an enormous help.
Although Hale's not much of a gamer herself, she did recently play through Mass Effect 1, and when asked about the campaign to find the new default female Shepard model she chose "the one with the freckles".
Mass Effect 3 is due on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March 2012.
