How to get Timber the Dog in Far Cry New Dawn

It’s back to Hope County for another round of action-packed debauchery, though this time it looks a little different. Here’s everything you’ll need to survive the post-apocalyptic wastelands of Far Cry New Dawn.

There’s no better video game companion than a dog, and in that respect Far Cry New Dawn delivers in spades. The dog in question is called Timber, and he’s a resourceful little feller. He’ll sniff out enemies and loot, pull weapons and shields from foes, and outright kill those who stand in your way. You’ll need to recruit him first though, so in this Far Cry New Dawn Timber Guide, we’ll show you how to do so.

The very best companion in Far Cry New Dawn is a trusty pup named Timber. You’ll need to rescue him first, from Highwaymen who intend to serve him up on a platter. Here’s how to get Timber the dog in Far Cry New Dawn.

Far Cry New Dawn Man Eat Dog Mission

You’ll need to liberate a couple of Outposts to get this mission. We were given it by an NPC at Broken Forge after liberating it. You’ll need to head to the location highlighted on your map and kill the Highwaymen there.

Head into the compound to free Timber. He will help you fight, and will also point out the way forward. The next mission is to free the rest of the dogs, for which you’ll need a key. Follow Timber!

Timber will lead you to platforming points, all the way up until you get the kennel key. Once you have it, go and free the dogs. Timber will now be your companion.

Far Cry New Dawn Timber Abilities

We’ve already explained just how useful Timber is, and it’s all down to his abilities. Check them out in the list below:

  • Retriever - Timber will tag enemies, dig Crafting Materials and sometimes fetch a weapon after an attack.
  • Pointer - Timber will tag Crafting Materials nearby, and alarms.
  • Guard Dog - Timber will intercept animals trying to attack you.

How to Upgrade Timber in Far Cry New Dawn

In order to make the most of Timber in Far Cry New Dawn, you will need to upgrade him. To do this, he needs to kill enemies. 15 kills raise him to level 2, and then 40 to level 3. The best way to do this is to use the left d-pad input to send him after enemies.
