Far Cry 3 devs don't fear Call of Duty, 'we’re in a comfortable spot'
Far Cry 3 developer Ubisoft Montreal has revealed why isn't fazed by the threat of Call of Duty, and believes that while both games are launching in November, its island-hopping shooter offers a different prospect.
Speaking with MCV, Ubisoft brand manager Henri Guay has stressed that while Far Cry 3 was pushed back from September to allow more time for polishing, that the Call of Duty clash isn't an issue.
“Far Cry has always been a little bit off the map in terms of the offer that it gives," Guay stated, "People are going to continue to play Call of Duty and people are going to look for experiences that give them something a little bit different. We feel we’re in a comfortable spot.”
“I think we’re in a lucky situation where Ubisoft," Guay continued, "through all levels of the organisation, was ready to make a commitment to the brand. To have the support at an organisation level to say we’re committed was great.”
"Far Cry 3 is a big game and there’s an expectation," Far Cry 3 product manager Dan Hay added, "We wanted to make it as great as it absolutely can be,” he said. “There were a couple of things we were talking about cutting from the game that I just couldn’t bear to take away from the consumer. So the reality is that we have made a very strategic choice.”
Far Cry 3 launches on PS3 and Xbox 360 November 30th.
