Bethesda literally asked players not to touch the Fallout 76 PC beta client last night [Update]
Bethesda has been having a major issue with the first Fallout 76 PC beta session, and it resulted in a warning tweet you definitely don't see every day.
Update: Bethesda deleted the tweet following the publication of this story. Here's what the tweet said, "PC #Fallout76 B.E.T.A. players: We are aware of an issue with the client and are investigating. Do not click any buttons on the client for the time being."
Original story: Just minutes before the start of the Fallout 76 beta session on PC, Bethesda was alerted to a problem that causes the client to delete all downloaded files.
Given that it's a 50GB download, this obviously wasn't ideal. As Bethesda was trying to identify the cause, the publisher issued a tweet warning players against touching any of the buttons in the client.
The language of the tweet is certainly unorthodox, and it caused players to make fun of the publisher on social media/online forums.
The next tweet, posted two hours later, actually explains what the bug is about. It turns out, clicking any button on the client can inexplicably delete the beta download and re initiate it. Bethesda continued to investigate, and asked players to leave the download to finish.
Many players will obviously not be able to download all 50GB in time. The session had a limited window, after all, so some - particularly those in Europe - decided to call it a day.
To try and compensate players for the lost time, Bethesda announced an extension to tomorrow's beta test. This four-hour extension means the November 1 session will now end at 8pm PT, 11pm ET, 3am GMT (November 2).
The issue appears to have been fixed, too, thankfully.
