Fallout 76 Factions - Factions List, Locations, Can You Join Factions?
Yes, there are factions in Fallout 76. And now we’re super close to release day, we know what factions are in the game. From the Brotherhood, to the Enclave, here’s everything you need to know about Factions in Fallout 76.
Fallout 76 puts an online multiplayer spin on a bunch of tried and tested Fallout features and systems. Everything from Perks to Base Building has had an overhaul, retooled to suit the new style of play. Factions have also had somewhat of a rethink, and while they do feature in Fallout 76, it’s unclear as to whether they’ll operate in the same way as before. In this Fallout 76 Factions Guide, we’ve collected everything we know about the five Factions present in Fallout 76. We’ll take a look at the descriptions of each one, and wager where on the map you’ll be able to find them.

Fallout 76 Factions
Bethesda has revealed that Fallout 76 will indeed feature Factions. Not only that but there are some returning fan favorites to interact with. Problem is, Bethesda has been pretty secretive about the main story of Fallout 76, and how players will interact with Factions and NPCs (if there are any). Regardless, we have plenty of info on each of the five Factions that you’ll come across while playing Fallout 76.
Fallout 76 Brotherhood of Steel
After some minor fan outcry regarding inconsistencies (https://www.usgamer.net/articles/fallout-76-brotherhood-of-steel-lore-raises-questions) in Fallout 76’s lore, Bethesda has finally detailed just how the Brotherhood of Steel are active in the game. The Brotherhood of Steel’s story in Fallout 76 is described as follows:
November 2077, a month after the Great War, army Captain Roger Maxson arrived with survivors at the Californian bunker of Lost Hills. There he formed the Brotherhood of Steel, who used a functioning satellite to extend their reach across America… all the way to Appalachia.
It’s clear that this a different kind of BoS to what we’re used to, as evidenced by the different colored armor and insignia. We’ll have to wait and see what role the military organisation will play in Fallout 76’s story.
Fallout 76 Raiders
You can’t have a Fallout game without Raiders, so it’s unsurprising that they’ll serve as fodder in Appalachia as well. Here’s what we know about the Raiders in Fallout 76 so far:
Ruthless. Selfish. Bloodthirsty. Since the day the bombs dropped, Raiders have been the scourge of the wasteland. In Appalachia, Rose is their enigmatic leader. But who is she? And what does she hope to gain, as she watches the carnage from her roost on the Top of the World?
So once again, you’ll be blowing the limbs off of Raiders in Fallout 76. There were options to join up and align with these psychopaths in Fallout 4, so let’s hope the same is true here. The Raiders have a HQ at the Top of the World.
Fallout 76 Factions - The Responders
The Responders are a new addition to the Fallout universe, having formed in Appalachia some point after the Great War. They’re all gone by 2102, so that would explain why they don’t feature in any of the other games. Here’s how Bethesda describes The Responders in Fallout 76.
All across America, they were the first to run into danger: the brave fire fighters, police officers and medical professionals who selflessly served their communities. After the bombs fell, they formed the Responders. Their mission – help each other… no matter the cost.
The Responders have a pretty great style going on, wielding fireman’s axes and coats. There’s also the likelihood that they’re a lot more sane than the Raiders, so it could be well worth joining up with them if possible. They can be found operating out of Morgantown Municipal Airport.
Fallout 76 Factions - The Free States
Another new Faction to deal with is the Free States. They’re essentially doomsday preppers who survived the Great War due to their paranoia and self-sufficiency. It’s unclear where you’ll be able to find the Free States, but it is said that they operate out of bunkers. Here’s all we have on the Fallout 76 Free States.
On October 23, 2077, the world was plunged into nuclear war. But what if you expected the worst? And planned for it? In Appalachia, a group of doomsday preppers did exactly that. Organized as the Free States, they holed up in their bunkers. And survived. At least, for a while…
Given that the Free States are made up of a group of doomsday preppers, they’ll likely have a ton of supplies. So if you like canned goods, you know who to join up with.
Fallout 76 Factions - The Enclave
The Enclave is one of the more stories of the Factions in Fallout 76. They are heavily featured in Fallout 2 and 3, essentially ensuring elements from the pre-war governmental political structure remained intact following the nuclear attack. They are deeply involved with Vault-Tec, and once planned to evacuate to another planet to avoid the bombs. Here’s how they fit into Fallout 76:
Just before the bombs fell, US leadership re-located to a remote Oil Rig off the coast of San Francisco. The Enclave’s mission – to re-establish governmental control of America from key locations, like a secret bunker hidden somewhere deep in Appalachia…
The Enclave are likely to play a large part in the overall story in Fallout 76. As for where to find them, that “secret bunker” sure sounds interesting huh.
