If there's anything that's going to make you special in Fallout 76, it'll be adaptability and learning to adjust to the challenges and needs of the Appalachia wasteland. Here we'll show you whether you can respec your character and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats to ensure you're ready for anything.

Can You Respec Your Character and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Attributes in Fallout 76?

Yes and no, oddly enough. Fallout 76 has a strange system wherein players of Level 50 and up can make small tweaks to their character and shift bonuses each time they level up, rather than just respecing all their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points in one go. We'll explain it momentarily, but needless to say, it's not quite what you'd expect.

Your stats determine what makes you special, but a full respec isn't an option. | Joel Franey/USgamer, Bethesda Game Studios/Bethesda Softworks

How to Respec Your Character

If you do want to respec, you'll have to wait until you're level 50 and up. From that point on, each time you level, you'll can choose to forgo selecting a new Perk Card and instead move a single increment from one of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats to another. For example, if you have a Strength of 10 and Luck of 5, you can move a Strength point over so it drops to 9, but raises the Luck to 6. It's an odd system to say the least, one that seems to encourage gradual change over instant alteration. It's also not retroactive, meaning that players who are level 60 aren't going to suddenly get the option to tweak their stats ten times. Sorry about that.

How to Respec Before Level 50

If you want to adjust your stats before level 50, you'll just have to do that the normal way through levelling up, as there's now way to respec your stats before then, even taking into account Fallout 76's rather loose interpretation of the term. The closest thing you can do is just make a new character and begin the game anew.
