Fallout 4 mod adds loadout switch hotkey, answers my prayers
Fallout 4 modders save the day again.
Today's featured Fallout 4 mod is a beautifully simple solution to a persistent annoyance: the slow crawl through menus to switch weapons, clothing and armour.
Consider the case of Draqul IV, one of my many (many, many) Fallout 4 characters. In general she wanders the Commonwealth in vault suit, stealth-friendly leather armour, reflective sunnies and whichever stat-boosting hat is amusing me that day. Any time I want to go shopping or persuade an NPC, she has to laboriously climb into Agatha's Dress, slap on a pair of fashionable sunglasses, and don her amazing lieutenant's hat.
Switching back and forth is a pain, but there are even more important reasons to switch your gear out regularly - especially on a high difficulty. You might want to carry a couple of different sets of armour - something strong against energy weapons in case of Institute attack, for example, along with a more bulletproof ensemble for raiders, and maybe a stealth suit and anti-radiation get-up, too.
The existing hotkeys are alright but there's not enough of them to stack all your necessaries on there, and flicking through half a dozen of them takes longer than just opening the Pip-Boy, where you've renamed everything ZZZ_STEALTH_SUIT in order to speed the changing process - except for those items that you can't rename because they can't be modded. It's just a pain.
Outfit Switcher - Hotkey Loadouts by registrator2000 solves this problem, and it does it very elegantly with a Stealth-Boy-like inventory item. It offers 20 loadout slots you can cycle through without entering a menu, and five hotkeys for favourite setups.
Plus, it looks totally rad in action, and is pretty much essential for anybody getting all fashionista. Deacon 100% approves. Bring this one to consoles, Bethesda; I love it.
