Fallout 3 remake mod Capital Wasteland is back in development
The Capital Wasteland Project, a large scale mod that recreates Fallout 3 in Fallout 4, is back in business.
The team behind Capital Wasteland has announced it's once again working on the Fallout 3 recreation project.
Back in March 2018, the team cancelled the project, because unlike other mods, it would be unable to reuse audio and voice overs from the original game. This is because it would not require folks to own a copy of Fallout 3 in order to use the mod in Fallout 4, which would cause legal issues.
A way around it has been worked out, but it will take some time to accomplish the task. What is this workaround you ask? The team will have to re-record around 45,000 line of dialogue. Yup. Not a small undertaking.
"Last year we communicated with Bethesda regarding our planned method to implement the voice acting and other audio from Fallout 3 into the Capital Wasteland," said co-lead HcGxGrill in the announcement. "As you might already be aware, we were informed that our planned approach would raise some serious red flags and so after a few discussions amongst our team we decided it would be best to put the project on hold.
"So after taking a few months break, I slowly picked up the pieces and continued my work on the Capital Wasteland. Currently we have a handful of people (myself included) continuing work on recreating the Capital Wasteland.
"With the help of our voice acting lead Unoctium we are working towards re-voicing the lines from Fallout 3. We are looking for people to join our team; as of right now we only have a handful of people working on this project."
The team is looking not only for voice actors, but level designers, animators, and artists specializing in environment, 3D, 2D, and VFX Artists (thanks, RPS).
