Ex-Mythic boss left due to future direction of company

Ex-Mythic boss Mark Jacobs left the company two years ago because he didn't agree with the course of direction the company was about to take under its then new owners EA, the man himself has said.

"Let me be very clear about this. John Riccitiello is the CEO and it's his company. They bought Mythic," Jacobs told Eurogamer.

"JR has the right to do whatever he wants. I will never look at him or say publicly 'why would you do that, bla bla bla?' That's not my job.

"They made a decision on a direction they wanted to go and obviously, as we put out in our joint statement, that wasn't a direction that had a role for me, or at least the role that I wanted. It really is as simple as that. Or at least publicly. Whatever went on behind the scenes, whatever we talked about, I have no intention of sharing that."

But if you think Jacobs will have a parting shot at his old employer, you're going to be sorely disappointed, saying to EG that his exit within EA was civilised.

"One thing I'll say publicly about EA, they have been very good in what they've said post-departure regarding me. Similarly I've been good about what I've said about them post departure," he said.

"Did I agree 100 per cent with them? Of course not. Did they agree with me 100 per cent? Of course not. If they did I'd still be there."

Jacobs shockingy left Mythic, behind Warhammer Online, in 2009 in a out of the blue move which seen BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka appointed head of EA's RPG/MMO group. The company is now operating under the BioWare brand.

Last week, Jacobs announced he was leading a brand new social studio, City State Entertainment.
