Swot up on Evolve's progression system before the big alpha

Evolve's big alpha test opens this week, and Turtle Rock is kindly offering you the chance to be prepared.

A new post on the Evolve website outlines the two different kinds of progression in the 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer shooter.

Experience earned in-match contributes to character progression, and is spent on mastering skills, weapons and abilities.

Mastery increases through three ranks from skilled to elite. Each rank comes with a new perk. One example would be gradual increases accuracy and damage to various targets for assault rifles, as well as receiving a special weapon at the highest rank.

Maxing out one character - be it hunter or monster - will unlock the next character in that class.

Player progression is persistent across all characters. This won't be available in the alpha test, but Turtle Rock gave a run down anyway.

You gain experience towards player progression by earning Awards and Medals, and as you advance through the 40 ranks you earn perks. You can select one perk before each match. Turtle Rock gave a few examples of perks"

  • Climb Speed / Jump Bonus
  • Weapon Switching Speed
  • Jetpack Recharge
  • Damage Bonus
  • Ability Cooldown Rate
  • Armor Regeneration
  • Health Regeneration
  • Feeding Speed
  • Smell Range

Got all that? Good. Sadly, nothing you earn during the alpha test will carry over to launch.

It's worth checking out the full progression blog post through the link above, as it details which characters and equipment will be available when the alpha test kicks off.

Evolve is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in February. The big alpha test kicks off on October 30 on Xbox One and reaches the other systems on October 31.
