"Every single individual developer is a publisher" - Sony boss

Sony doesn't want to make distinctions between the game creators it delas with, be they tiny indie developers or mega-publishers like Activision, EA and Ubisoft.

SCE Europe's publisher and developer relations boss Agostino Simonetta gave a talk at Develop Conference in Brighton, as reported by Joystiq, stating Sony's intent to level the playing field for all game companies.

"Every single individual developer is a publisher as far as we're concerned," he said.

"We don't separate, we don't segregate indies from traditional publishers."

Simonetta said Sony is enacting an open door policy at its European offices, with all indies welcome to come to London for a chat about their games.

"For us, it's key that each and every one of the companies working on PlayStation can come and talk to us at any time they want or need," he said.

On PlayStation 4, all self-published indies will have control over release date, and will be offered promotional opportunities on the PlayStation blog and social media channels - dependent on the quality of the game submitted.

Getting games approved on PlayStation 4 is a one-step process now, and Sony wants to have an answer back within a week. Developers can also request feedback from Sony regarding the game, but it's up them if they want to implement the suggestions.

Simonetta revealed that over 500 games have been self-published on the PlayStation Network, from over 160 companies.

Thanks, Polygon.
