EVE Valkyrie: CCP cagey on intended platforms

CCP has played coy on the subject of what platforms dogfighting sim EVE: Valkyrie will come to, even refusing to confirm it will release on PC.

Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, CCP's chief marketing officer David Reid was reluctant to commit to anything.

“Hold on a second, we haven’t confirmed that Valkyrie’s on PC. It’s capable of playing on PC right now, but we haven’t confirmed what we’re going to launch it on," he said.

“It technically works on PC, and it’s working fine, but there are other platforms it could run on. There’s nothing that technically prevents it from running on a console, for example.

“I mean, PC is definitely in the cards. Is it definitely something that’s there in 2014 on commercial launch day? I couldn’t answer that for you yet. We certainly could do it, but it’s still a question of whether we will.”

What makes this all very interesting is that EVE: Valkyrie was announced as an Oculus Rift title, and Oculus Rift has not yet confirmed for platforms beyond PC.

So either CCP is just doing the very guarded PR thing some publishers enjoy, or Valkyrie will be compatible with standard displays, or it's carefully avoiding confirming or denying the VR headset tech is on the way to other platforms. One of these theories is more exciting than the others.
