EVE Online's “day in the universe” visual experience detailed as MoMA games exhibit opens
EVE Online will become part of the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection as part of its new Applied Design installation. EVE is just one of fourteen video games which will be on display at the New York City museum through January 31, 2014.
For its portion of the exhibit, CCP Games created a “day in the universe” visual experience which shows off a journey through the EVE Universe, and includes some of the "everyday actions" of some of its 500,000 inhabitants from 230 countries.
These clips were made up of personal gameplay recordings from players which were then combined with 1.2 terabytes of data from the server databases into a "larger narrative representing the massive sci-fi game and player interactions within it."
“We couldn’t imagine telling the story of the EVE Universe without putting our players and their actions front and center,” said Torfi Frans Olafsson, Creative Director, EVE IP Development Division.
“The exhibition was such an inspiring project to work on. Seeing our universe under the same roof as so many other legendary works we love makes that collaboration an even more meaningful honor.”
Other games in the collection, which opens to the public today, include: Pac-Man, Tetris , Another World, Myst, SimCity 2000, vib-ribbon, The Sims, Katamari Damacy, Dwarf Fortress, Portal, flOw, Passage, and Canabalt.
EVE Online will celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 6.
