Eve Online team "dabbling in mobile", considering companion apps
Eve Online developer CCP Games has confirmed it is toying with the idea of mobile companion apps for its persistent MMO universe. However, it needs to be sure of how it will all work before proceeding.
Speaking with Touch Arcade, EVE Online executive producer Jon Lander said, "We’ve been dabbling in mobile for a long time. But we’ve never really focused on it. We’ve never taken the time to put a clear strategy together about how these things fit in with our universe".
The studio aims to create an experience accessible across a multitude of formats, and World of Darkness senior producer Chris McDonough confirmed that CCP's next MMO is being built in a similar fashion.
It's a studio-wide approach to development, added vice-president of business development Thor Gunnarsson, who said, "Ultimately, our strategy is to create bespoke experiences that are tailored to what our fans are using. Of course, they’re using tablets and smartphones, day-in and day-out. We want to bring another access point to them, wherever they are.”
Lander then stressed that much work was needed to realise this goal, and said, “We’re not a mobile development house yet. We don’t know this stuff. But we can learn.”
