Enterbrain: 3DS hits 4.1 million units sold in Japan
Nintendo has sold over 4 million units in Japan, nearly a year after the handheld first launched in the country, Famitsu publisher Enterbrain announced over the Christmas break.
Enterbrain said 3DS hit 4.1 million sales last month.
The number comes following the release of several big hits for 3DS before the holiday break - Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3G - which saw the hardware achieving its biggest sales week yet in mid-December.
3DS defeated the launch of PlayStation Vita in its first week.
Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land have gone over the million sales barrier - respectively hitting 1.04 million and 1.08 million - while Monster Hunter 3G sold more than 730,000 copies since its launch in Japan last month.
Nintendo launched 3DS in Japan at the end of February 2011, releasing it with a high price and lack of software, both of which seems to have since been rectified with a global price-cut last August and a heavier game schedule.
Thanks, Gamasutra.
