You can re-watch the first developer diary here. The Kickstarter is now 50% funded, with 34 days left to reach its £1,250,000 goal. So far, 13,605 backers have pledged £632,380.
Also, the Elite: Reclamation Kickstarter, a novelization of the game's story by Drew Wagar, has been fully funded with 33 days to spare.
