FromSoftware's Elden Ring exists and Phil Spencer has played it
Xbox head Phil Spencer says that not only has he seen quite a lot of Elden Ring, he's played it.
Elden Ring has remained ever elusive since its reveal announcement at Microsoft's Xbox E3 2019 conference. FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki's next game has been radio silent, much to the chagrin of fans.
This has lead to a quietly bubbling narrative that the game might have stalled, years off of a release. The poor community has even been tormented by fake Instagram accounts.
You can rest a little easier From fans. The game is real, and what's more, Xbox head Phil Spencer has played it. Speaking to Gamespot, Spencer said of the game: “I've seen actually quite a bit. I've played quite a bit.”
There's more too. Spencer went on to say the Dark Souls and Bloodborne creator is planning his biggest game yet.
“As somebody who's played all of Miyazaki's games over the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game that he's done. I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it.”
That 'other creator' is Game of Thrones' George R. R. Martin, who is working on the story with Miyazaki.
Elden Ring currently has no release window, but the fact that Spencer says it's in a playable state is sure to buoy the more pessimistic fans. It could even potentially suggest that the game is further along then its quiet marketing might suggest.
For now, though, the wait for official word from FromSoftware goes on.
