Eidos boss named CBE in Queen's New Years Honours list
Games Workshop and Fighting Fantasy co-founder and Eidos life president Ian Livingstone has snaffled a much-deserved royal nod.
The BBC reports Livingstone has been named CBE - Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - in the 2013 New Year's Honours List.
The Eidos boss has had a huge impact on the games industry, both at home and abroad. He was been a key member of Eidos sincs its 1995 acquisition of Domark, weathering two ownership exchanges to be named life president by new overlords Square Enix.
As well as his role at the influential publisher during its glory years - including the debut of the first Tomb Raider - Livingstone sculpted modern game design as half of the creative force behind highly influential gaming systems featured in Fighting Fantasy and Games Workshop releases.
"I'm genuinely humbled to get something. My life has been all about games, and I think we learn an awful lot through play," Livingstone said.
"Writing Fighting Fantasy books with Steve Jackson in the 1980s seemed to have got a whole generation of children reading again. And I'm delighted that what we created not just manifested itself in interactive books but it's actually inspired people to join the computer games industry."
