EG Expo: GW2 Charr character creation and gameplay shown

NCSoft's showed Guild Wars 2 during a session Eurogamer Expo, which we liveblogged. Get acquainted with what Johnny during the stage demos, and other nuggets of information below.

Martin Kerstein, community team lead, was just one of three ArenaNet members to take the stage at Earl's Court to show of the MMO's character creation system along with a new trailer and gameplay.

The new trailer started out with watercolor art from the game's world before dissolving into a scene of destruction and all out havoc being wrecked upon the environment.

Multiple races from the game began to take shape, as well as enemies and "a flying creature" appearing out of nowhere.

After the video, AreanNet discusses one of the innovations it wanted to implement with Guild wars 2, in order to make it more than just a "traditional MMO." The first of these innovations was the game's combat. Secondly, the developer wanted each player to have its own unique biography, in order to help flesh out the the character's story within the main story of the game. Lastly, it wanted to add dynamic events - something ArenaNet has discusses in great detail in the past.

Shifting focus onto character creation, ArenaNet showed session attendees the various ways in which characters can be customized. Using the human and Charr races as an example, the team showed how players can adjust various facial features from the size of a character's eyes, to their ears, head, and nose.

After the character creation demo was finished, the team moved on to gameplay, which featured the Charr in his starting area, along with the race specific opening cutscene.

"I'm Charr and in this world of constant battle, I am the dealiest weapon of all," the voice over said. "I respect no authority. With engines of destruction, we have killed our Gods. Victory. At any cost."

Once the cutscene finished, the Charr character went to fight in the frontlines against ghostly enemies, in a quest called Fury of the Dead. The demo ended when a boss was engaged, and battled to the death. The downed system, was also shown, which gives you a final chance of revival to finish off your opponent.

The demo shown consisted of ArenaNet employees, as well as EG Expo attendees playing the game on the showroom floor.
