EA's unannounced action-adventure game will have never-before seen gameplay ideas, says publisher
EA is teasing some light details about its upcoming action-adventure game.
The project was first talked about when EA established Motive studios in Canada back in 2015. The team there is headed up by former Ubisoft studio head and industry veteran Jade Raymond, but little else is known about it.
What EA did say at the time was that it's going to be the company's big foray into the action-adventure genre, which has thus far eluded EA, despite others seeing success with series like Assassin's Creed, and the myriad of other open-world action-adventure games.
At this week's UBS Global Technology Conference (via GamesIndustry), EA CFO Blake Jorgensen talked a little bit about the mysterious game, saying that it's going to have unique gameplay mechanics.
"We have a team in Montreal that is building a brand new action franchise, probably for our Fiscal [Year] 2021 that also looks fantastic and very exciting," said Jorgensen.
"A new game, with a lot of new interesting gameplay that I don't think anyone's ever seen before."
Jorgensen reiterated that EA lacks a strong action-adventure franchise, which is part of why it's working extra hard to be a player in this space. He mentioned Anthem as being the other big action title in the works at EA.
"That's the largest sector in gaming. It's one we haven't spent a lot of time in because we were so focused on sports and first-person shooters. We feel like there's a huge opportunity there," he added.
Anthem is due out sometime next year, whereas Motive's project is still a ways off.
