Earthbound creator says Mother 3 sequel is "impossible"

Shigesato Itoi, creator of Earthbound, has dashed our dreams of a Mother 4.

In an interview with Game Watch Impress, translated by Kotaku, Shigesato Itoi dropped the bombshell, stating that making a sequel to Mother 3 would be "totally impossible".

“When I made 3, I thought I could do it, so I did it,” he said.

Drawing a comparison to the music industry, he explained, "Among big-time popstars, if they, you know, put out ten albums, around the fourth album, they can’t make very good songs. The albums sell, but everyone at the concerts wants to hear songs from those first three albums. Everyone."
