EA still open to future deal with Bungie
As one of our wisened culture's greatest luminaries once said, "If you like it, put a ring on it."
EA doesn't see any ring on Bungie's finger.
"I don't want to see them fail - I want them to be successful," EA Partners boss David DeMartini told CVG. "And when they start up a second team, we'll have other discussions with them about that game as well - because they're a great studio. There are probably only 20 studios in the world that are that highest level - and they're certainly one of them."
Bungie - despite its recent shack-up with Activision - insists that it's still independent, meaning that EA could very well add a Bungie-shaped notch to its bedpost in the future.
Why not now, though? EA's got a strong stable of games, sure, but no one just looks at "the next big action game universe" from Bungie and keeps right on walking. DeMartini explained:
"We had extensive conversations with [Bungie], but could never really figure out a deal that made sense for both of us. It just didn't come to fruition. Obviously, they were able to come up with some kind of deal that made sense to Activision and made sense to Bungie and we hope they make great games. It's healthy for the industry to have big independent studios that are making great products."
Healthy for the industry? Yeah, that's cool, we guess. But you know what'd be healthy for us? A new Marathon game to start off Bungie and EA's fruitful relationship on the right foot. So yeah. You just think about that.
