EA Sports Active announced, targeted at mid-30s women

EA's revealed EA Sports Active, a line of Wii games designed to physically put you through your paces and, obviously, square up to the likes of Wii Fit.

According to Gamespot, the first game under the brand "won't require the Wii Balance board at all, but will instead rely on a neoprene peripheral which will strap the Wii Remote or Nunchuck to a player's leg. The game will also come with a rubber resistance band for strength training when it launches next spring for $59.99.

"In addition to over 20 sports, EA Sports Active will feature a range of fitness tools, including a calorie counter, virtual personal trainer, 30-day weight loss program, and customizable workouts."

"If there is a targeted sweet spot, it is a woman in her mid-30s with two young children that was active--wishes she was more active--and is pressed for time," said Peter Moore in an interview with Forbes.

"That is who we'll market to because we think that's a viable market. I worked at Reebok during the '90s when we were developing in-home fitness--the Reebok Step and the Reebok Slide--and I'm very aware of the challenges that people who are typically housebound or pressed for time but still want to do fitness."
