EA vows to tackle racism, homophobia and toxic behaviour in its games
EA has updated its community guidelines to better root out toxic behaviour.
EA has revealed the Positive Play Charter, a set of guidelines the publisher arrived at after consulting with players from different walks of life. In short, the publisher is making a commitment to be proactive in removing harmful user content, and act on reports quickly and decisively.
The types of content in the purview of this charter include everything from racist and homophobic content, to abusive and harassing behaviour. In practical terms, EA is putting more resources into moderation and reporting tools across all of its games. The publisher is also training its staff to better identify and react to those problems.
EA said it recently removed over 3,500 inappropriate player-generated assets from its games, and took action with the players responsible for said content.
"We believe that our communities should be safe, fun, inclusive environments free of threats, harassment and other toxic or unlawful behavior," said EA.
"The last few weeks have been a stark reminder that we have a responsibility to stay vigilant in this effort. We won’t tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, harassment or any form of abuse."
