E.T. landfill documentary will kick off new Xbox TV series in 2014

Microsoft has announced a new series of shows looking at the rise of the digital age, starting with a documentary on the hunt for land-filled copies of Atari 2600 mega-flop E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.
Polygon reports that Xbox Entertainment Studios and Lightbox will produce the shows. The series starts with the E.T. documentary, in which Lightbox and Fuel Entertainment will excavate a landfill in New Mexico to search for crushed, unsold Atari 2600 cartridges said to be buried there after the game flopped.
The show will be exclusive to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One, and is directed by Zak Penn, whose previous work includes The Avengers and X-Men: The Last Stand.
