Dungeon Defenders 2 takes cross-platform title to MOBA territory
Dungeon Defenders 2 has been announced as a free-to-play follow up with a MOBA-like multiplayer mode.
The classic co-operative multiplayer gameplay of the original will return, with developer Trendy Entertainment promising a full reveal on March 22.
In the meantime, though, its keen to talk about the new competitive mode.
"Yes, it’s a MOBA. Yes, you can play it at PAX East," Trendy said, noting the sequel can be found at booth #968. Visitors who take advantage of this will score exclusive in-game items, and are able to collect all four if they check in every day.
"Our take on the MOBA genre is more rpg-esque, with more hero customization, persistent hero leveling, loot and a town square where players can socialize, manage their heroes, shop, trade, and queue for matches. We’ve drastically simplified the item system, to reduce the learning curve for new players and are aiming for shorter total match times. We’re also experimenting with some other unique twists that you might find out about later (if they work)," the developer added in an FAQ.
All aspects of the game will be free-to-play, with Trendy vowing not to be "pay to win".
"The exact details are in flux, but we’ll have several opportunities for you to provide feedback both in and outside the beta. Our goal is to provide the same amount of content at around the same price as the original game," it said.
Dungeon Defenders 2 is in development for Android, iOS, Mac, PC and web, with details of cross-platform play coming soon. The cooperative mode will go into beta late 2013 or early 2014 and the competitive mode is in closed beta now. Head on over to the announcement page to sign up for testing.
Thanks, CyberMarco.
