Dragon Quest 11 for Switch includes extra content and modes, is out this year
Nintendo fans were left in the cold while PS4 owners got to enjoy the initial release of Dragon Quest 11 - but Switch players will now finally get the definitive version of Dragon Quest 11 this autumn.
Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition has finally been confirmed for a Western release, and with the announcement comes confirmation of what will be included in the package - and it's pretty exciting stuff even for those who have played the original release of DQ11 on PS4 and PC.
For a start, Dragon Quest 11 S will include an optional 2D, 16-bit presentation that resembles the Dragon Quest games of the nineties. Players will be able to toggle between the modern full 3D version of the game and the 2D version at will, on the fly. The 2D mode was originally designed for the Nintendo 3DS version of DQ11, which never came West, but now resurfaces as part of the Switch release. You can see what it looks like in screenshots below.
In addition to the 2D mode, this new edition of Dragon Quest 11 also includes both English and Japanese voice overs, fully orchestrated field and battle music throughout and even a fast forward option for speeding up the game's turn-based battles.
Last but certainly not least, the release will include new story elements, with new quests diving deeper into each of the main party members of the game and their background.
All of this content is new to the 'S' Definitive Edition of the game, which it appears is going to be published by Nintendo and not Square Enix - meaning this content is very unlikely to ever come to PC or PS4. Switch players had a wait, but it looks like it will have been worth it.
