Dragon Age Inquisition guide and walkthrough part 3: The Captain of the Charges

Talk to the messenger and head to Storm Coast to meet Iron Bull

Exit the building and talk to Krem. You’ll need a power level of 4 to carry on with the main story, but if you’re not quite there, partake in some side quests to raise it. When you’re ready, go to the war room, highlight the Ferelden region and choose to scout the Storm Coast.

After a cutscene, get a report from the the Requisitions Officer. Move north and take out the enemies here to trigger a cutscene with Iron Bull. If you hire the group, Iron Bull will join your party.

Cleaning House - Advance to the rendezvous point

Follow the marker on your map towards the rendezvous. You’ll have to use your quest map to check that you’re heading the right way from here as your mini-map will be inactive. When you happen across some bandits standing guard over a building, kill them and loot it. When you reach your destination, kill the guards outside of the Hessarian Camp, then kill everyone inside and sweep the area for loot. You’re now free to indulge in some side quests, or progress with the main story by travelling to Ghislain Estate.

Inquisitor's Path - In Hushed Whispers

When you arrive at Ghislain Estate, you’ll trigger a cutscene. If you opt to let the mages assis you, Vivienne will be able to join your party and you’ll transport back to Haven. Fast travel to the Hinterlands, go north to Redcliffe, close the rift, and enter Redcliffe for another cutscene.

Meet Fiona at The Gull and Lantern and meet with Felix in the chantry

Head to the exclamation point marker on the map, talk to the Hinterlands Healer and persuade her to help the humans. Follow the primary objective marker to The Gull and Lantern, engage in some chit chat, then head to the next map marker to meet Felix in the Redcliffe Village Chantry. Enter the hall to trigger a cutscene.

Grab the loot from the other end of the chantry and the book in the corner before heading to Haven’s war room. You’ll need a power level of 15 to proceed with the story so once again, mop up some side quests of you’re not there yet.

It’s decision time: choose to side with the mages or the templars, get your party together and get going. As we’ve been continuously assaulted by the Templars throughout the course of our journey so far, we’re picking the mages.

Find out what happened

After the cutscene, defeat the soldiers and loot the area to pick up a prison key.Leave the area through the gate on the other side of the room and head through the door at the top of the stairs. Go up the next flight of stairs on the right and through the door at the top.

You’ll find some loot in a cell in the hall. Grab it, then carry on into the next room, through the left and take the loot before talking to the prisoner in the cell. Do down the corridor, taking the loot from the cell on the left, head up the stairs and through the door and kill the soldiers in the next room.

Take the door on the left and go down the steps. In the next room, go through the door on the left, pick up the loot, return to the previous room and enter the door on the other side. Head down the stairs, through the door on the left and pick up the loot before talking to Fiona who can be found in the last cell on the left-hand side.

Find Leliana

Make your way back through the door, up the steps on the right and up the next set of stairs and through the door on the other side of the room. Go down the stairs and take the door on the right. Pick up the loot before talking to Iron Bull in a cell on the left to have him join your party.

Double back to the last room and enter the door on the right. Go downstairs and take the door on the left. Pick up the loot and leave via the door on the opposite side. Grab the loot next to the door and talk to Cassandra in the cell on the right.

Go back upstairs, through to the next room and up the stairs all the way over to the right. In the next room, you’ll be attacked by soldiers, so take them out, go through the door on the right that they were guarding and head upstairs.

Pick up the loot and pop through the door on the left to find a journal and more loot. Return to the main room, head up the stairs over in the left corner, through the door at the top and on through the door ahead of you to find some loot.

Double back out of this room, head up the steps on the right and enter the door over in the right-hand corner. You’ll find some soldiers and loot inside. Leave the room and make your way to the the door over in the left corner of the hall. A cutscene will trigger when you go through.

Get back to Alexius’ throne room

Grab what you need from the centre of the room and exit. Go through the door across the hall and follow the path until you come across a door on the left with a rift beyond it, guarded by some Shades. Deal with them, close the rift, and open the gate to the left using the gear on the other side of the room.
Go through the gate, up the stairs and into the room at the top to find some more Shades and some loot. You can make a pit-stop at the docks to refresh your inventory if you need to. Make your way up the next staircase and through the door at the top. There are 2 rifts in the courtyard that you need to close, so to make life easier, deal with the first lot of Shades and close the first rift before moving toward the second one for another enemy encounter and sealing it.

Sweep the area for loot, ascend the stairs, head right and pop through the door at the end. Push forward through all of the doors here until you get to a corridor that has a door on both sides. Through the door on the left you’ll find a note and some loot, so collect this before heading through the other door and picking up the loot here.

Continue down to the other end of the hall and through to the room beyond where you can find more loot and refresh your inventory. Go through the door on the left, pick up the loot in here, head down the stairs and through the door at the end.

Kill the enemies in the next room, seal the rift and pick up the loot.

With the door that you came through at your back, go through the door on your left to top up your supplies. Head up the steps, through the door at the top and into the room on the right. Pick up the schematic in here before heading across the corridor into the next room for some more loot. Continue down the hall and go through the door over to the far left.

Kill the enemies in here and then smash the wall on the right to access another room. Take out the enemy here, grab the shard and loot and the journal on the left. Smash the next wall to find more loot, then go back out into the corridor, follow it to the end and enter the door here.

There are more enemies, a shard and loot in here, so once you’ve killed and collected everyone and everything, return to the corridor, head to the left and go through the opening in front of you. Go down the stairs and through the next room, where you can refill your inventory, to return to the main hall. All the way on the other side of the hall is the last sealed door, but you still won’t be able to open it for the minute.

With the closed door at your back, go through the door in the far left corner, head down the corridor and through to the next room. Defeat the enemies in here, pick up the loot and the shard which will allow you to open the sealed door. Retrace your steps and use the shards to crack it open and trigger a cutscene.

Alexius Boss Battle

HP: 20, 971
Perceptive
Immune: All disabling effects

Rogues and mages will be a huge boon in this battle as Alexius teleports from spot to spot, posing as a shifty target for the melee classes. After almost every instance of teleporting, he’ll cast a barrier spell to bolster his defence. He’ll also cast spells over the floor of the arena, that effectively detonate when you step onto the green circles indicating their presence, so definitely don’t do that!

When you’ve chipped away at him to cause a significant enough amount of damage, he’ll create a rift in the centre of the hall. As soon as this happens, switch your attention to sealing the rift and mopping up the enemies that spill out, casting any barrier spells at your disposal so you can dive into the fray without getting too concerned about taking a heap of damage.

Alexius pretty much runs out of tricks after this, so finish him off pronto, but be sure to collect any loot before you kill him, as you won’t be able to pick it up afterwards. Once he’s been defeated, you’ll trigger a cutscene during which you’ll be given the choice as to whether you want to make Dorian a permanent addition to your party.
