Dota 2 G-1 League tournament hit by DDOS attacks to win $20,000 bet
Dota 2 tournament G-1 League has been hit by a series of DDOS attacks which were allegedly carried out to manipulate the winners in order to win a bet. The organisers have had to either postpone bouts or declare winners before matches ended.
PCGamesN reports that the rumoured attacker has posted an alleged admission on 4Chan, stating that they targeted the tournament to win a $20,000 on the outcome.
The site adds that a bout between teams Evil Geniuses and Absolute Legends was the first to suffer the Distributed Denial of Service attacks, which made them unable to connect to matches.
Then, the first bout between Mousesports and Virtus.Pro went smoothly, but the second was attacked as well, forcing the latter team to tag-in two substitute players. Today, Kaipi and Team Empire suffered more attacks, forcing Kaipi to go a man down only to prevail as the winner.
Organisers had to postpone a game between Team Dignitas and QPAD Red Pandas after it suffered a quick meltdown. It is rumoured that the attacks stem from a Skype issue that lets attackers see a person's IP address and then hammer them mercilessly with spam bots.
The identity of the culprit is currently being investigated, but you can see the alleged admission over on 4Chan here.
What do you make of the above? Pretty shitty isn't it?
