Doom will be released in Germany without any content edits

This May, Doom will be released in Germany uncut for the first time in franchise history.

Previous releases of the game were edited for violent content in order to be sold in the country.

Not this time though, according to a tweet from Bethesda Germany earlier today.

Following up on the news with Bethesda's Pete Hines, it was confirmed to Polygon Doom would release "in its entirety in Germany without the need to edit or change anything."

"Perhaps not all that surprising given how other titles have been rated there recently,' said Hines, "but still a cool thing to see given that Doom and Doom 2 were banned in Germany and were delisted a few years ago."

Bethesda successfully appealed the delisting in 2011 for both Doom 1&2, and both games are now available for sale, unedited, in Germany. Same with Quake.

The company also recently won an appeal regarding Fallout 3 in the region. The game had been edited for content in order to be sold in the country as well, but soon an unedited version of the game will be made available. The de-listing led many to speculate the appeal from Bethesda was prepping the way for an HD re-release of the game.

Doom is due for release May 13 on Xbox One, PC and PS4.
