Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two confirmed, contains co-op, musical numbers

Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two has been confirmed by the Associated Press and now a tweet from Geoff Keighley.

Speaking with AP, Warren Spector said he “made a mistake” with the original game's release and has not only fixed the camera placement so Mickey doesn't plummet to his death all the time, but Spector is also releasing the game through PS3 and Xbox 360 this time out as well as Wii.

"We've had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game," said Spector. "They'll be working on it until the day we ship the second game. (There have been) over 1,000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game."

Spector and his team at Junction Point Studios have also added drop-in and drop-out co-op, and musical numbers created by composer Jim Dooley and lyricist Mike Himelstein. Oswald will also return, and is playable alongside Mickey as well as in single-player.

"I'm such a geek about musicals," said Spector. "I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it's magic. It's drop-in, drop-out co-op. You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald.

"If you're playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He's not just a multiplayer character. He's a helper, whether you're playing alone or with a friend or family member."

Spector said it was hard getting people to care about Oswald in the first game, since the rabbit hadn't been seen since 1928 and lost by Disney in a contract dispute.

"It was unrealistic to expect people to care in the first game, but now we know they care," he said. "We hear about it from players all the time. They really, really got into Oswald, which is hugely gratifying."

In the Power of Two, Mickey's choices will affect what happens throughout the Wasteland and the songs and music in it will change based on whether gamers prompt the mouse to be "well-mannered or mischievous." The landscape is a bit similar to the last time out, only earthquakes and other disasters have changed the appearance.

Familiar areas will be revisited, but players will also be able to explore previously unseen Wasteland realms.

"There's always been one part of the (Disney) parks that I've always wanted to get into Wasteland," said Spector. "Frontierland has changed so much since it started. There's so much forgotten history there, so Frontierland is going to get a pretty good exploration this time around, plus some other places that we'll keep secret for now."

Epic Mickey 2 will be released in the fall and a first look at the new title is expected via GTTV tomorrow.

Three screens pulled from the AP article are below, and while small, you can at least get a glimpse.
