Discrepancy between US and EU PS Stores blamed on "licensing and localization"

Sony's Jawad Ashraf has explained why some games launched through the US end of the PS Store don't make it across the pond to the European end.

According comments posted on the EU PS Blog, the issue boils down to licensing and localization.

"Licensing, market and a host of other business and non-business decisions all play a part," Ashraf said."What is often forgotten is the EU consists of not just one or two countries - it includes a variety (36!), meaning a lot more localising must be done. Certain games also retain licenses only in certain territories or have expired rights.

"There's generally so many factors that can often lead to games being delayed or totally cancelled for specific regions, and sometimes this cannot be helped."

Speaking of localization issues, there's still no word on when Trine 2 will be released in Europe through the store but Ashraf said he knows "a date," but is "just not allowed to say it."

"Let’s hope FrozenByte make their post today then, eh?, " he added.
