Discord adds music sharing so the entire chat room can listen to Spotify while playing

Discord is partnering with music streaming service Spotify to bring a pretty neat feature.

Like it already does for games, Discord will now also show song details on your profile so everyone else can know exactly what you're listening to. If you've ever used Discord, you'll know how this is going to look.

What's more, anyone with a Spotify Premium account can share what they're listening to with others in the chat room, in real time, provided they also have a Spotify Premium account. In either case, you'll be able to check out the artist, album etc. by clicking the links on any of your friends' profiles, and listen to the same trakc if you want.

This is part of Discord's rich presence tech, which already works with games like Call of Duty: WW2, and allows for deeper integration like the ability to see more details about the current match a player is in, and to invite others directly through Discord.

The new Spotify integration definitely makes sense to use with some some, but it also helps Discord have sort of a Bandcamp-like presence in the music business.

Artists and creators will be able to start their own verified servers, the same way game developers and communities can today, only in this case, their fans would be able to sample their work through Discord, with the help of Spotify.

The feature is already live.
